The name 'emerald' comes from the greek 'smaragdos' for 'green stone'. except for the rare few they have inclusions that are generally accepted as well as the treatments which are normally listed and should not be a deterrent to purchasing. it has a hardness of 7.5-8 on the mohs' scale and should only be cleaned in ionic cleaners or with warm soapy water and a soft brush. keep away from ultra sonic and steam cleaners.
