min 1.45ct 7mm round burma spinel. cut in thailand. spinel has been called an 'imposter' gem for some time. it's strong resemblance to corundum often has it mislabeled ruby or sapphire including the 170.0 carat black prince ruby and 352.0 carat timur ruby which are both set in the british crown jewels. spinel ranks 8 on the moh's scale and it occurs naturally in every color making it one of a handful of gemstones that are not treated or color enhanced.
